Star Wars: Jedi Challenges

Role: Dueling Mode - Combat Design Lead

Star Wars: Jedi Challenges is an Alternate Reality experience for the Disney Mirage headset (developed specifically for Jedi Challenges.) The experience had three main game modes and required close communication with Disney as well as other external development teams. Schell Games was responsible for the "Dueling" mode of the wider game- which acted as the game's featured bossfights.

Contributions:

  • Designed and pitched the core combat system to stakeholders at Disney.

  • Provided ongoing feedback to Lenovo while iterating on gameplay as new versions of the Mirage headset were being developed.

  • Worked with an in-house Behavior Tree solution to design/implement all battle AIs for the dueling mode. (Darth Maul, 7th Sister, Grand Inquisitor, Darth Vader, Kylo Ren, the Archivist, and the Dark Archivist.)

  • Designed and implemented a system of 3 Force Powers & 21 Passive abilities to create a progression scheme for the experience.

  • Managed internal & external playtesting efforts on Schell Game's side, while communicating with Disney to incorporate their own playtesting feedback.
